After the project has been 3D printed, the components placed and connected, it was time to power it up, and make sure it works, before sealing it shut.

With everything connected, it’s time to test the code that will load the pictures on the microSD, and display them on the 2.8″ TFT display. If any issues arise, I’ll be able to trace everything with ease, and can use the Arduino IDE to view the Serial Monitor for errors.

Keepsake: Wiring

Once the components are fitted into the toolbox and frame, wires can be measured to ensure a clean fit. The wires should not be tight, nor should there be too much slack that cables are coiled into a corner.

Keepsake: 3D Printing

Measure many times, and print once. 3D printing can be inexpensive, if you take the time to plan out the design. Going through filament until a print works is going to get expensive, but using a precision digital caliper is a good starting point.

Keepsake: Parts

There isn’t much going into the project, and I’ve miniaturized it where possible. Mainly, instead of using an Arduino Uno, I’ll use the Arduino Pro Mini microcontroller. While not entirely necessary, I’m adding a buck converter between the power source and the microcontroller.
