Personal Project: Keepsake
My father recently passed away, and I am building this personal keepsake, as a way to always remember him. Rest in Peace, Dad.
For my entire life, he has been a mechanic of various sorts, but mainly with big, commercial vehicles. He’s mostly worked on trash trucks, tow trucks, and local city buses. Throughout his years of work, he had a lot of one-off tools, and a few toolboxes to perform his duties. To me, even after retirement, he was a mechanic, and that’s how I will always remember him.
I don’t have a concept drawing for this project, as I know exactly what I want to build, and only needs measurements. All of my designing will be done on Tinkercad’s site, with all the interlocking pieces fitted with 0.5mm gaps. Using PLA with a 0.4mm nozzle, this has been the most successful setting for fitting pieces together.
This project will reflect my perspective of my father, and that’s why I’m creating a toolbox with a picture display on top. The toolbox is a non-functioning facade, meant to keep the electronic components enclosed. I didn’t want to complicate this project, so I kept the design simple: an enclosure for the TFT display, fitted above the toolbox enclosure. This is the one and only design that I will use, as anything more will delay the creation of this project.
